Roger Federer Makes History

Posted by Gene Morris on July 5, 2009

Coming off a disappointing loss to Rafael Nadal in the epic 2008 Wimbledon final, Roger Federer reclaimed his spot as the #1 Tennis player in the world, and possibly the mantle of “greatest of all time.”

Federer once again was involved in a five set classic, this time defeating American Andy Roddick 5-7, 7-6 (8/6), 7-6 (7/5), 3-6, 16-14. The victory was Federer’s record breaking 15th grand slam championship, and his sixth Wimbledon title.

The argument now shifts to whether or not Federer is the best player ever. His last two grand slam victories have come without having to defeat Nadal. And it’s obviously clear these two players are the top two in the world today.

While Federer’s game may have slipped slightly over the past year while Nadal’s has improved just as much, the overall body of work points to Federer being the best ever.
